Once you have created a custom stock options account, you can enter granted options (I.E. - "grants") with various vesting schedules and including stock grants as well as vesting options.
E.G. - 4-year grant with a 1-year cliff, then monthly vesting.
This is one of the most common grant types in high tech. You have a number of shares granted but the first block of shares don't vest until the end of the first year (the "cliff"). Then, additional shares are granted monthly.
- Grant description - we create a default using the date and the company name of the Custom Stock Options account, but you can change this to anything you want
- Total Shares - the total number of shares in the grant
- Exercise Price - the price at which you can purchase your shares
- Current Price - can be the same as the exercise price but if you are entering grants that are in the past, hopefully the current price is higher. If you are a public company and entered a ticker then we price it automatically
- Vesting Start Date - the date the grants starts to vest (sometimes it's the same as the grant date). If you can't find the start date you can use grant date.
- Vesting Schedule - a drop down where you can select from one of the standard schedules or choose a custom vesting schedule.
E.G. - Custom Vesting Schedule
- Vesting Interval (months) - the frequency at which the granted options vest (grants are usually annual, in which case you would enter 12 months).
- Months Until Fully Vested - The number of months until the grant vests. Usually grants are 48 months (for a 4-year grant).
- Length of Cliff (months) - Grants typically have a 12-month cliff before you start to get shares, although different cliff periods can be entered (in months).
- Shares Granted at Cliff - The number of shares granted once the cliff period has elapsed
Make sure to check your vesting schedule for the most accurate dates when entering the details for your Stock Option Grants
